Where to eat pizza in Soho, from slices to Neapolitan
A slice on Berwick Street, a proper Neapolitan on Old Compton Street, and what to order at each door.
By Only Soho EditorialSoho does pizza in three moods: the slice you eat standing up, the Neapolitan you sit down for, and the late one. Here is where we would go for each, and what to put in front of you.
The slice: Breadstall, Berwick Street
At 92 Berwick Street, in the street-market end of Soho, Breadstall sells Neapolitan-style pizzas about 20 inches wide by the quarter, half or whole pie, with a street-facing window for slices. The dough is a slow-fermented biga sourdough. Time Out rates it among London's best pizza restaurants and describes a crisp base with a floppy, almost naan-like crust, part of the return of a chunky, doughy slice.
It began as a stall on Northcote Road in Battersea, and this was its first indoor site. It is walk-in, with takeaway hatch seats, room inside and a frozen margarita machine.
Order: the New York-style spicy vodka slice. Hot Dinners also liked the rocket and burrata and the pepperoni, and the menu rotates, so ask what is out of the oven. Dunk the crusts in the 'nduja mayo. Go mid-afternoon or early evening, when a slice is a perfectly good dinner.
The Neapolitan sit-down
L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele, 44 Old Compton Street
Da Michele opened in Naples in 1870, and the Soho branch (London's second, after Baker Street) took over a former Patisserie Valerie on Old Compton Street in February 2020. It does not take reservations, and it keeps late hours: open until midnight, and half past midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, according to Ideal Magazine.
Order: the margherita with buffalo mozzarella. The Infatuation likes the lightly charred crust with a puddle of tomato in the middle. The menu began with only margherita and marinara and has grown since. The Nudge points to the O'Cazone and the Salsiccia e Friarelli. Skip the gold-leaf showpiece pizza unless you want the story.
Napoli on the Road, 140 Wardour Street
Time Out reported in June 2026 that Napoli on the Road was named Europe's top pizzeria for the third year running at the 50 Top Pizza Europa awards. Founded by pizzaiolo Michele Pascarella, from Maddaloni near Naples, it began as a truck. Soho is the third branch, in Radical House. The Infatuation says it is at its best when you ignore the frills and concentrate on the pizza, and describes the upstairs room as warm, a little chaotic and full of people who came to sit down.
Order: a wood-fired pizza with one of the signature toppings, such as the Cetara tuna with black olives (The Nudge, describing the group's menu). Take the upstairs table.
Pizza Pilgrims, 11 Dean Street
The Dean Street restaurant is the original, from a pair who began with a van on Berwick Street Market after a pizza tour of Italy. The Infatuation calls it affordable and reliable, with chewy, thick-crusted pizzas and a thin, saucy middle. It is a two-level corner space, open until eleven Thursday to Saturday and until half nine on Sundays, according to the Pilgrims' own site. It also won Pizza Restaurant Chain of the Year at the 2025 PAPA Industry Awards.
Order: a classic pizza and the tiramisu to follow, which reviewers on Thatsup praise alongside the smoky parmigiana. It is the easy answer for a group before the theatre.
The late ones
Soho after dark is where the slice comes into its own.
- ICCO Pizzeria, 23 to 24 Greek Street. By its own account, pizza on Greek Street since 1999, walk-in only, serving until 3am on Fridays and Saturdays. Order the margherita or the pepperoni, which the restaurant lists first.
- Da Michele, 44 Old Compton Street. The sit-down option past eleven, with the margherita still the order.
- Breadstall, 92 Berwick Street. Open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays according to its launch announcement. Order the vodka slice.
Hours drift, so phone ahead if the night depends on it.
Not Neapolitan: Japes, 22 to 25 Dean Street
Next to Soho Theatre, Japes does Chicago deep dish and a round, Detroit-like London style. It opened at the end of 2018 and Time Out places it among its best pizza restaurants in London. Reviewers on Tripadvisor favour the Hot Honey and the vegetarian Pesto Manifesto. Come for the deep dish before a show.
How to choose
