Ceviche Soho has closed: what's at 17 Frith Street now
Ceviche Soho shut in December 2023 after 13 years. Tangra now fills 17 Frith Street, and here is what to order.
By Only Soho EditorialIf you have searched for Ceviche Soho, the short answer is that it is no longer there. The Peruvian restaurant at 17 Frith Street closed on 21 December 2023, after 13 years. The address is still worth the trip, because it now holds one of the more interesting vegetarian kitchens in Soho.
What Ceviche Soho was
Martin Morales opened Ceviche at 17 Frith Street in 2012. Hot Dinners gave the opening date as 12 March 2012. It was a Peruvian restaurant and pisco bar built around ceviche: sustainable fish "cold-cooked" in tiger's milk, a mix of lime juice and aji chilli. A Ceviche Bar had a cevichero preparing the dishes in front of you.
The signature was the Don Ceviche, sea bass in aji amarillo chilli tiger's milk. Restaurant Online credits the place with a key role in popularising Peruvian food in London.
Morales also opened Ceviche Old Street in 2015 and Andina in Shoreditch. In 2019 the group went into administration, and Rosa's Thai Café founders Alex and Saiphin Moore bought it in a management-led buy-out, Frith Street included. By the end the Soho site was the group's last remaining restaurant, and the closure was announced on social media on 21 and 22 December 2023. Harden's and The Infatuation both now record it as closed.
What is at 17 Frith Street now: Tangra
Tangra opened in the old Ceviche space on Monday 3 November 2025. It is a vegetarian, largely vegan Indo-Chinese restaurant inspired by the Tangra neighbourhood of Kolkata and its Hakka Chinese community. It is a Mildreds spin-off, with executive chef Nikesh Sawant, formerly of Mildreds and Mallow. It seats about 60, and it sits close to Ronnie Scott's and Bar Italia.
What to order
- Lolli-popcorn chick'n (£9): DesignMyNight's reviewer's favourite, so start here.
- Bazaar momo, Jhol-style (£9.50): dumplings in the soupy Jhol style.
- Chilli paneer (£10.50): the Indo-Chinese classic.
- Burnt garlic rice (£7): the side to add.
- Vegan soft serve (£6.75): the sensible finish.
Other dishes named at launch include the honey chilli waffle aloo, Manchurian kofta, Hakka noodles, schezwan fried rice and the Sadeko chick'n kati roll.
When to go, and what it costs
Broadsheet lists opening hours of 11am to 11pm from Sunday to Wednesday, and 11am to half one in the morning from Thursday to Saturday, with a shorter late-night menu once the evening wears on. Other listings give slightly different times, so check before you set out. Late-night cocktails were £7.50 at launch, which makes a late Friday or Saturday the hour to aim for.
For budget, DesignMyNight puts three courses and cocktails at about £100 for two, and SquareMeal lists £30 to £49 a head.
For after
You are on Frith Street, so the answer is outside the door. Bar Italia and Ronnie Scott's are both on the same street, and both are named as Tangra's neighbours. Bar Italia suits a late coffee on the way home, and Ronnie Scott's suits a night that is not finished yet.
Want ceviche itself? Señor Ceviche, a Peruvian restaurant and cocktail bar, is listed at Kingly Court, off Carnaby Street. The listing mentions lunch, dinner and a Saturday bottomless brunch. Order the ceviche, and check hours before you go.
